Vitalant: Manager, Technical Support


This is a Full-time position in Pittsburgh, PA posted April 5, 2021.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for the management of all technical support functions in the clinical laboratories, including, procedure revision and development, process change, proficiency programs, training, deviation management, and equipment management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations.

Brings compliance issues to the attention of management.Assures quality customer service to all customers.Maintains good attendance and punctuality per the absence policy.Hires, supervises, trains, develops, and evaluates performance of assigned personnel.

Identifies and effectively resolves personnel issues.Leads the development of SOPs, validations, training programs, and process changes.

Manages the review and update of policies, protocols, and procedure manuals to ensure compliance with policies and accrediting agencies.

Works with Quality staff and appropriate management to ensure regulatory requirements are met.Manages projects related to the implementation of new or revised tests, equipment, and software.Develops monitoring processes (e.G.

trending and tracking of procedural errors, resolution of audit findings, and timely completion of projects) to review and analyze data to determine if modifications or additions to existing processes are required.Communicates information to assigned personnel, regarding regulatory changes, recommendations, and official memoranda from federal agencies.

Maintains statistical information and reports of test data and quality control.

Prepares activity reports and interprets, prepares, and distributes statistical data regarding the laboratories.Manages and ensures timely completion of each laboratory’s proficiency testing programs.Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge/EducationBachelor’s degree required.Must satisfy CLIA requirements for High Complexity Testing required.Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations as they relate to technical operations required.Knowledge of management processes of planning, organizing, and implementation required.Licenses/CertificationsSpecialist in Blood Banking (SBB) or Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) certification preferred.ExperienceSix years clinical laboratory experience required.
