Research Technician

The Department of Immunology (PI: Dr.

Atianand) has an immediate opening at the Research IV position for an experienced scientist to study the role of long noncoding RNAs in immunity.

The Research Scientist will be responsible for carrying out a variety of experiments in cellular and molecular immunology with a focus on applying genetic screens, RNA-based technologies, imaging and RNA-sequencing to uncover the role of novel genes in immune cell development and functions.

Some daily functions include maintaining cell cultures, generating stable cell lines, performing macrophage activation assays, qPCR, fluorescence activated cell sorter analysis, western blotting, high content imaging, and preparing samples for proteomic analysis.

The ideal candidate will work independently to develop new biochemical and molecular assays and develop data analysis strategies with minimal supervision.

The candidate is expected to contribute significantly to the success of the lab by training new lab members, work in collaborative projects with other labs at the University of Pittsburgh and other Universities, and draft manuscripts with the PI.

The Research Scientist will also be responsible for maintaining data integrity, computer files, ordering lab supplies and maintaining a general laboratory inventory.Relevant experience may be substituted for advanced degree requirements.

Degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, or Biochemistry required.

Laboratory expertise in a wide variety of research techniques and willingness to learn new methods as needed is desired.
